Advantages And Disadvantages of 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevrolet Tahoe

Overview

The all-new Chevy Tahoe is the epitome of "latest and greatest." With a modern exterior design, contemporary features, and increased cargo area space - this three-row SUV has everything you'd expect from its bigger sibling, the equally new Suburban. Thanks to its extended length - 2021's Tahoe offers more room for passengers in the third row as well as larger storage capacity.

An Editors' Choice award-winning vehicle, the latest generation of this car features an independent rear suspension to address previous issues. It's also roomier than ever before, with two powerful V-8 engines and a torque-filled diesel engine providing options for drivers. In addition, its selection of driver assistance tools and popular infotainment systems make it ideal for full families looking for luxury and comfort on the road.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2021 Tahoe offers the same power as its predecessors with a V-8 engine option plus an additional diesel 3.0-liter six cylinder engine that produces 460 lb.-ft of torque to match that of the larger V-8 - all powered by a 10 speed automatic transmission and equipped for either rear or all wheel drive. The 5.3 liter standard 355 hp, along with available 420 horse 6.2 liter block complete this impressive line up!

We put the z71, equipped with a capable V8 engine and a two-speed transfer case for 4WD capabilities, 20 inch all-terrain wheels, and added armor to its underbelly through extensive testing. This vehicle had great acceleration power along with an impressively silent interior when driving at high speeds - not to mention the firm brake pedal we experienced!

Not only does the Z71 package boast air springs that enable you to automatically and manually lower or raise your Tahoe's ride height, but it also includes all-new adaptive dampers for optimum driving performance. For extra bling, both the RST model as well as top-of-the line Premier and High Country feature glimmering 22" rims!

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The fuel-efficient Tahoe with its available diesel engine is rated at a 21 mpg city and 28 highway, while the standard 5.3L V8 offers slightly more efficiency in the city over its optional 6.2L V8 both of which are estimated to achieve 20 mpg on the highway. During our 75 mph high way route test we observed 27 mpg from this eco friendly version! Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Chevrolet Tahoe provides various revolutionary towing assists along with its comprehensive selection of driver-assistance technologies. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

With the Tahoe's recently enlarged interior, it feels like acres of space compared with its predecessor! The third row now adds an extra 10 inches of legroom and second-row seats that slide fore and aft for versatile seating arrangements. Now adults can take pleasure in sitting comfortably in the far back too!

The Tahoe's interior design has been optimized to provide a lower and flatter load floor, thanks to its new architecture and independent rear suspension. When the second and third rows are folded down, it provides an impressive 123 cubic feet of cargo space - that's 28 more than before!

Not only did we manage to pack six carry-on suitcases behind the third row of seats, which is more than twice as much as with the previous model's four-bag limit, but Chevy also upgraded their column shifter to a convenient push-button and slider setup. Unfortunately though, they included an unnecessary motorized retractable center console lid that can only be operated using the control switch located on top of it - thankfully this minor detail hardly detracted from Tahoe's otherwise excellent ergonomics!

Is the Chevy Tahoe a reliable car?

Compared to other midsize SUVs, the Chevy Tahoe has a relatively low reliability rating. While repairs aren't very frequent for the Tahoe, they do tend to be significantly more severe than repairs on other vehicles.

Do Chevy Tahoes last long?

According to Auto Trader, the Chevy Tahoe will last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles. So, a high mileage Tahoe is up there, around 200,000 miles. You can trust Tahoe models from, say, 2008 and earlier to make it all the way. However, this depends on if the Tahoe was taken care of.

What's more reliable Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe?

On top of all that, the Expedition enjoys higher ratings among CR members when compared to the Tahoe, too. Overall, Consumer Reports calls the 2022 Ford Expedition “a nicer vehicle overall,” with a powerful and refined powertrain, a nicer interior, and more standard safety features, coupled with solid reliability.
